protection team internship
Duration: 14 September 2020 – 12 March 2021, 6 months
Location: Country Office Beijing (CO Beijing)
key tasks and responsibilities
The intern will work under the guidance and supervision of the Protection Associate (Community-Based) and will be based in the UNHCR office in Beijing. S/he will perform the following tasks:
assist the protection team in preparing home visits and focus group discussions with refugees across the country;
assist in implementing the cash-based interventions programme;
monitor and respond to email queries from refugees and asylum seekers;
assist in facilitating telephone counselling for refugees and asylum seekers;
assist in individual case interventions and maintain up-to-date case notes;
collaborate with volunteer groups organizing activities for refugees and communicate with interested refugees about participation and receive their feedback;
perform other duties as assigned by the supervisors.

essential minimum qualifications
A recent graduate (completed studies within 1 year of applying for this internship) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university;
completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in international relations, law, social sciences, health, education or other related areas;
fluent in english, proficiency in other languages i.e. french or arabic is a plus;
firm commitment to a full-time internship of six months in beijing.
The aim of the internship is to provide professional experience in an international organization which is related to and supplements studies or interests in international relations, public international law or other related areas;
the internship provides an opportunity to work in a multi-cultural intergovernmental organization;
unhcr will provide a food and transportation allowance for interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party.
the internship program is not connected with the recruitment process; nevertheless, unhcr is willing to provide reference and a fair performance evaluation of the internship for his/her contribution to unhcr’s work.
